CODE OF CONDUCTS

Bethel Livingstone believes that part of the education of the individual is learning

to live as a member of a community, realizing that the way students lives their

lives affects both themselves and other members of the community. Students

will be supported to avoid acts as rudeness or disobedience to a teacher or prefect,

dishonesty or unkindness to a fellow student, willful disregard of school rules, or any

failure to do one's absolute best in study, games, house duties or any other activity.

General Guidelines for Students:

  • Think more of other people and behave in such a way that you do not cause

      them inconvenience, embarrassment, discomfort or danger. Take active steps

      to stop any unkindness or tendency towards bullying, verbal or physical.

  • Do not do anything that you would not like your parents to hear about. Behave sensibly, with care for others.

  • Make sure that your personal appearance (clothes, hair, shoes) is neat and that you move about the school in a disciplined manner.

  • Obey all instructions from teachers and prefects promptly and cheerfully. Do not show resentment even if, for some reason, you feel it. Obey first, complain or explain later.

  • Behave courteously to your teachers, to visitors and to your fellow students. If trouble comes, tell the truth. Telling the truth may help to lessen trouble; lying is a greater offence

  • Students should never use abusive language, slang, or vernacular with those who don't understand it

  • Appropriate language and response (gesture, body language etc) are always expected from students. Fighting and swearing will not be tolerated

  • Start each day with a cheerful and cooperative attitude. Do not be disruptive in class

  • Treat school property with care. Do not intentionally misuse school property

  • Be on time and prepare for each class period

  • Obey the attendance and homework policies

  • Obtain permission and sign out if leaving the school grounds during the school day

  • Leave the classroom only after receiving the teacher’s permission

  • Stay out of “off limit” areas (i.e. teachers desks, office, head administrators office, storage rooms, and janitors areas)

  • Obey the school’s dress code

  • The use of electronic music devices are not allowed

  • Students must complete their assignments/Notes on time

  • No student will be allowed to hold any money in the school

Assembly/Devotion Behavior

  • Assembly is a time to enjoy worshiping God and learn more about him.

  • Give maximum attention and respect to the speaker.

  • Sing and clap appropriately

  • Flagrant, irreverent behavior during chapel or showing disrespect for God’s word will not be tolerated.

Classroom Behavior

  • Arrive for Registration by 7.15 am

  • Make sure that the desks are properly arranged and that the classroom is tidy before the start of every lesson.

  • Raise their hands when they want to ask or answer a question.

  • Sit up properly at their desks.

  • Participate fully and cooperatively during lessons.

  • Do and submit their assignments promptly.

  • Catch up on any work they have missed through absence.

  • Do not talk during a lesson without the teacher's permission.

  • Do not leave their desk or move around the classroom unless told to do so by the teacher.

  • Do not lean on the walls, sprawl over school desks, sit on school desk or put feet on school desks.

  • Do not write on the chalkboard without the teacher's permission.

  • Do not make any mark on furniture or walls.

  • Do not bring comics, magazines, etc., to school or lessons.

Dining Hall Behavior

  • All students are expected to be present at every meal and eat something, however small.

  • At the end of the meal, the bell will be rung twice. The first bell will signal that plates should be stacked and the second that students should stand in silence for grace.

  • Passing of food from one plate to another is not allowed, nor is trading in food.

  • Nobody should start to eat until everyone is served at the table and prayers offered.

House Behavior

  • The dormitories should be kept scrupulously clean at all times, and beds should be well kept with sheets spread over them.

  • Sleeping directly on the Academy mattress is strictly forbidden.After Nightcap students must be in their own house and may not go to another house for any purpose.

  • Students must change into their nightwear as soon as they return from Nightcap and must not sleep in any item of day time wear.

  • A warning bell will be rung 5 minutes before Lights Out. This is the signal for the end of final visits to the toilet and the beginning of personal prayers.

  • No student is allowed to remain in the hostels during classes, study periods or at any other time when the entire student body is engaged outside the hostels.
